[HWPL] Clean Streets, Peaceful mind – HWPL Frankfurt's 2024 Cleanup Journey
Clean streets mean more than just clearness— there are someone's care and the responsibility of community .
In 2024, HWPL Frankfurt branch in Germany has done the voluntaeer work, street clean-up activities with these minds. over 33 times of trash collection breathe into the life to the city and have connetion with people.
On December 14th, It was commemorating International Volunteer Day. That day, 32 volunteers gathered in Frankfurt, collecting trashes from streets and public spaces.
Over the year, about 125 kilograms of trash from the city was gathered — a step toward a greener, cleaner Frankfurt.
Especially, on October 26th, during a program called "Kippen-Catch" was held near Frankfurt Central Station.
In just one hour, more than 500 cigarette butts were collected. Though small in size, these butts are toxic to the environment, often overlooked but never harmless.
This program wasn't just about picking up trash — it was to rethink and recogniize our unconscious habits.
Most of all, collected cigarette butts were turned into a flower pot shaped art work and shared across social media to spread the message of environmental protection.
It showed that even the waste could be transformed into a wonderful artwork. It also reminded us that protecting the earth can be one of the peacel work.
But HWPL Frankfurt hasn't been stopping here. Starting on January 11, 2025, a clean up campaign began again.
Not only prior volunteers but also new volunteers could join this campaign if they want to make this city and this world a better place .
And beyond clean-ups, HWPL Frankfurt plans to launch innovative programs that connect environmental and sustainable peace.
Environmental issues are ultimately connected to social issues. For some, picking up a piece of trash can be the first step toward changing tomorrow for others.
It shares our actions for a clean Earth and our mind for peace at the same time. Small actions come together to create big changes.
