Lautoka, Fiji, has become the first local government in Oceania to formally adopt a resolution supporting the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW). On July 21, the Lautoka City Council passed the measure in cooperation with the HWPL Global 11 Fiji Branch, officially designating the municipality as a "City of Peace."

The resolution follows a series of collaborative initiatives between the HWPL Fiji Branch, the Lautoka City Council, and the Lautoka District Education Office. Prior to the vote, the organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a framework for community-focused peace programs.
Key milestones leading up to the resolution included:
- The Peace Drawing Contest: An initiative launched on May 30 designed to engage local youth by allowing children to express concepts of coexistence and peace through art.
- Stakeholder Consultation: A planning event attended by 21 participants, including representatives from local health services, city council officials, and education advisors, to discuss approaches to peace education.
Scope and Implementation
The newly adopted resolution does not integrate the DPCW into municipal or statutory law. Instead, it serves as a formal declaration of intent by the council to support the document's core principles and to encourage peace-related activities at the civic level.
According to representatives from the HWPL Fiji Branch, the long-term objective of the partnership is to expand these community-based programs beyond Lautoka. Future efforts will focus on developing structural cooperation between schools, local government bodies, and interfaith groups to increase civic participation among youth throughout Fiji.
