[HWPL] Interfaith Leaders Unite in Atlanta for Nonviolence and Positive Peace

On November 15, 2025, at 3:00 PM local time, a large-scale interfaith peace event titled “Unity in Diversity: The Path of Nonviolence Through Faith, Culture, and Positive Peace & Religious Peace Academy” was held at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia.

The event was co-hosted by The King Center and HWPL Georgia, drawing significant attention from religious leaders, educators, and local communities.

Ebenezer Baptist Church is internationally recognized as a cornerstone of the American civil rights movement.

It is the church where Martin Luther King Jr. served as co-pastor and developed his philosophy of nonviolence. Hosting the Religious Peace Academy at this historic site symbolically connected the legacy of civil rights with modern interfaith peacebuilding efforts.

Approximately 700 people attended, including 113 religious and social leaders and over 560 community members.

Leaders from Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, and Sikhism delivered lectures emphasizing nonviolence, coexistence, and practical approaches to resolving social division through faith-based dialogue and education.

Speakers reflected positively on the gathering. Buddhist scholar Dr. Matthew Milligan of the University of Michigan described the event as “an amazing experience,” while Christian leader Rev.

Will Gravely of Refuge Church Atlanta highlighted its deep sense of unity and purpose. Rabbi Steven Lebow of Temple Kol Emeth noted his strong commitment to future interfaith collaboration.

This interfaith peace gathering demonstrated how faith, education, and dialogue can work together to build positive peace.

The collaboration between The King Center and HWPL is expected to further strengthen interfaith and peace networks across the southeastern United States and beyond.
